Chad Ford's Big Board Has A New Player At No. 10

By caseyholdahl

ESPN.com's Chad Ford has re-ranked the players in the 2013 Draft for the first time since the NBA Combine wrapped up a week ago. And at No. 10, Ford has Indiana center/power forward Cody Zeller.
Zeller helped himself tremendously with his athletic testing numbers at the combine. He tested as the most athletic big man in the draft and was in the top five of all participants at the combine. Now he just needs to complete the deal by proving to scouts that he has the perimeter skills to make the transition to the 4 position. If he shoots the ball well, he'll move up another few spots on our board.
Zeller makes frequent appearances in the Mock Draft Database at the No. 10 pick and was recently selected by ESPN.com's Amin Elhassan as one of the best fits for Portland in this draft, so no real surprise that Ford has him ranked at No. 10. It should be noted that Ford currently has the Trail Blazers taking Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in his most recent mock draft, though I'm not really sure what the substantive difference is between his "big board" and mock draft. I guess the mock draft factors in team need, which is a completely unnecessary exercise, especially at the top.

Ford also lists Lehigh guard CJ McCollum and Croatian small forward Dario Saric along with Caldwell-Pope as potential Trail Blazers targets.

  1. Ford's Big Board is simply his outright ratings of the prospects. His Mock Drafts take those rankings AND team needs/fit into consideration to try and estimate where players will be drafted.

  2. We need Kentavious. He can shoot the lights out with awesome range. I'll hold judgement though until we start seeing workouts. Are those happening soon?

  3. Jeff- There are only two players that I've seen coming into PDX as of now.
Zeke Marshall C 6-11 is coming June 13th and Pierre Jackson 5-10 pg coming June 17th. Of course these are subject to change, and there will be more confirmed soon (I assume)

  6. Zeller seems to be continuously falling.. Really should have declared last season. We could have landed him or Drummond at 11th...........................

  7. I don't see Zeller or Drummond falling to us last year at No. 11. Zeller was projected to go Top 10 and if Detroit picked him at No. 9, there's no way New Orleans lets Drummond slip by them at No. 10. Dre and Davis? That would have been lethal.
