Haynes: Blazers Interview Shabazz Muhammad
The Draft Combine starts today in Chicago, during which draft eligible players will be measured, drilled and interviewed by NBA front office staffs. And according to Chris Haynes at CSNNW.com, the Trail Blazers have already conducted at least one interview ...
Muhammad averaged 17.9 points and and 5.2 rebounds
in his freshman season at UCLA. Those are pretty good numbers, though he was unable to live up to the lofty expectations people had for him when he signed with UCLA out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Muhammad is expected to be in Portland's range at No. 10, as evidenced by the most recent mock draft on Draft Express
Chris Mannix at SI.com reports that Muhammad sounds like he's stoked at the opportunity to play for Portland.
Jason Quick of The Oregonian is also at the combine, and he reports that Muhammad, who mostly played small forward at UCLA, thinks he's due for a position change when he gets to the NBA.
Quick also reports that the Trail Blazers have scheduled an interview with Syracuse forward James Southerland,
Southerland, a senior who played all four seasons at Syracuse, averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds
, 1.5 steals and 1.1 assists in 29.5 minutes. He averaged 6.3 3-pointers a game at a 40 percent clip and has been called one of the best 3-point shooters
in this draft.
