Ravens Superfan Will Barton Picks The Super Bowl Winner

By caseyholdahl Posted in: Blazers, Jazz, willbarton

You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger Baltimore Ravens fan, at least in Oregon, than rookie wing Will Barton. A native of Baltimore, Barton has been a fan since of the Ravens since the Browns were moved to Maryland in 1996, so it's no surprise that he's picking his hometown team to defeat the San Fransisco 49ers in the Super Bowl XLVII.

What might surprise you are his thoughts on what the final score will be, Joe Flacco's comments on being one of the best quarterbacks in the league and the importance of confidence in the workplace, how he sees 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick faring against the Baltimore defense and what he'll be wearing for the game on Sunday.

Your general thoughts on the upcoming Super Bowl between the Ravens and 49ers.

Will Baton: "I'm real excited. I picked us to win the Super Bowl from the beginning of the season. One game away from being right."

Don't you always pick them to win the Super Bowl?

Barton: "Being a fan, you always want to see your team win, but this year, seriously, I thought we had the team, a veteran team. I feel like, if we didn't get it this year our time would be running out. Ray (Lewis) leaving, players getting a little age on them, like Ed Reed, so I said this is going to be the year."

What do you think about the matchup?

Barton: "I think it's a good matchup. (The 49ers) have a great defense, just like we do. I feel like Kaepernick, he don't got enough experience for this defense. He hasn't faced a defense like this, this tough. I don't see him really being as dominant as he's been in the playoffs (against the Ravens). He doesn't have enough game experience."

Since you're talking quarterbacks, what do you think about Joe Flacco?

Barton: "Flacco is elite! Come'on. He gonna get paid a lot of money this offseason. Probably a Top 5, in that five to ten range of top quarterbacks in the league."

What do you think about Flacco coming out and saying he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league?

Barton: "I loved it. I loved it. Before the season he say he felt like he was the best quarterback in the league and then he goes and takes his team to the Super Bowl. You gotta love that."

"And even if he didn't take his team to the Super Bowl, you've still got to love it because in your job, if you don't feel like you're the best I don't think you're successful. I don't think you would say someone is a better media guy or reporter than you. I would hope not. I wouldn't think you would say too many guys are better than you at what you do. So I loved it."

What do you think about all the issues surrounding Ray Lewis?

Barton: "I hope it's not true. But I ain't focusing on that. I just hope he gets me a win. Whatever you gotta do to get this win."

So what's your score prediction?

Barton: "Uuuuugggghhhhhh. I really don't try to get into score predictions. We just gonna get a win. But if I had to jump out there and take one it would probably be the Ravens 42 … I don't know why you looking like that!

(It's at this time that KATU Sports Anchor Craig Birnbach joins the conversation.)

Craig Birnbach: "That's a lot of points!"

Barton: "Have you seen what we've been going the last two weeks?"

Birnbach: "I'm picking them to win but 42 points is a lot of points!"

Barton: "42-21. We gonna air that thing out! We gonna air that thing out! Torrey Smith, (Anquan) Boldin, Ray Rice, we bout to air this thing out, baby. We gonna air it out."

How are you going to watch the game? I think you guys might be flying on Sunday.

Barton: "I hope we ain't flying. Wherever we at, I'm watching it with my Flacco No. 5 jersey on."
