Steve Kerr: 'They've got to throw Lillard right on the court'

In an interview posted on NBA.com, former Trail Blazer and current TNT analyst Steve Kerr talks about what he expects from rookies Damian Lillard and Meyers Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge's status as "one of the best players in the league."

A few quotes worth highlighting ...

In regards to Lamarcus Aldridge:

"He's one of the best players in the league. I think LaMarcus goes a little under the radar sometimes behind guys like Kevin Love and Blake Griffin. But Aldridge is terrific. He's a legitimate low post threat … He's got everything."

On rookie point guard Damian Lillard:

"He's critical. Leonard they can ease in, but I think they've got to throw Lillard right onto the court ... Lillard has all the talent and the quicker he develops, the faster Portland can get back to prominence."

And in regards to rookie center Meyers Leonard:

"Leonard has potential to be a really good player, but I think it's going to take some time."

  1. Casey, I believe Steve is right; we need Lillard up and going as fast as possible, On the job training is the best way to become what you want to be.
Let the mistakes he makes be young mistakes corrected and move on.
Even Leonard will get most good out of being thrown out there early, but in his case I believe he will be in foul trouble really early in most games for a while. But kid your self not, Leonard in a short time will be as critical as Lillard to LaMarcus and Lillard. We need a good pick and roll guy and Leonard will be that guy.
