Ford: Pacers 'On The Fence' With Regard To Matching Portland's Reported Offer
By caseyholdahl Posted in: freeagency, NicolasBatum
Ever since the Trail Blazers reportedly offered Indiana restricted free agent
Roy Hibbert a 4-year max contract, the conventional wisdom has been that the Pacers will match. But sounds like some people aren't so sure. Chad Ford, for instance,
believes it's basically a coin flip:
Spencer (Indiana)
What are the odds of Indiana matching Portland's offer on Roy Hibbert?
Chad Ford
51%. They are really on the fence. If they can find a replacement that they are comfortable with for cheaper, they may let him go. Chris Kaman is coming in today into Indy. Personally I feel that's a pretty big downgrade, but Larry Bird has been a huge fan of Kaman's.
And in the next question, Ford thinks the Trail Blazers will match on the 4 year, $45-50 million offer the Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly offered restricted free agent Nicolas Batum.
Nate (Kansas)
If the Blazers get Hibbert, do think that they will still match the 12-13 mil per year offer from Minnesota on Batum?
Chad Ford
Yes. I think they are keeping Batum as long as his contract stays in the parameters we've been talking about.
You'd have to consider it a pretty nice off-season if everything locks into place.
