Kawakami: Trail Blazers Could Take Austin Rivers At No. 6
By caseyholdahl Posted in: 2012draft, draft2012
The consensus in the media seems to be that at No. 6, the Trail Blazers will select either Damian Lillard or Andre Drummond, but according to
Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, Portland might have someone else in mind:
Kawakami also repeated this claim on yesterday's
Bald Faced Truth With John Canzano. Rivers
worked out for the Trail Blazers on June 20 in a guard-heavy workout. He's been projected to go just outside of the Top 10, so Portland selecting him at No. 6 wouldn't be much of a surprise. He'd certainly fill a need.
I do question whether the Trail Blazers would pass on Harrison Barnes, even if they liked Rivers, as Kawakami's "NBA source" implies. Barnes did workout for the Raptors, who have the No. 8 pick, so maybe it's possible his camp thinks he might slip. He did not work out for the Trail Blazers.
