Freeman: Tyler Zeller, Meyers Leonard Headline Tuesday Workout

By caseyholdahl Posted in: 2012draft, draft2012

The Trail Blazers will conduct their first predraft workout at the practice facility on Tuesday, and according to the Oregonian's Joe Freeman, two centers likely to be selected in the first round will be center stage. Via Freeman's twitter account:
The #Blazers 6-player workout will include: Tyler Zeller, C, UNC; Meyers Leonard, C, Illinois; Garrett Sim, G, Oregon, Casper Ware, G, Long Beach State; Kent Bazemore, G, Old Dominion; Kris Joseph, SF, Syracuse.

Zeller and Leonard are highlights of the #Blazers 1st workout. The touted center prospects are viewed as 1st-rd locks and lottery possibles.
For what it's worth,'s Chad Ford has the Trail Blazers selecting Zeller with the 11th pick, with Leonard going to the Magic at pick 19. Ware, who, at a hair under 5-10, was the shortest player measured at a recent workout in New Jersey, is expected to be drafted in the second round. Same goes for Joseph.

Just a reminder that we'll be streaming live from Tuesday's workouts as soon as it opens to the media, which should be around 9:30 AM.

UPDATE: The team has confirmed Freeman's list of workout participants.

  1. Hey Casey: finally some Blazers News. I will be watching Zeller as I hear he is OK.

  2. I would have loved me some Jeff Withey (in the picture).. an amazing shot blocker. But I'm really glad that Camby trade went down. Some great talents in the second round... Can we trade for more?! Can we trade down one of our lottery picks for multiple picks?!

  3. Unless we're desperate for a backup center, please "NO" to Zeller. We need to do better. We have to do better.

  4. Dunkonyerhed: I have heard so much about the draft picks that I don't know what to believe. Who do you think we should draft if available?

  5. Cody is Better then Tyler, so is Leonard, Melo and Simms. I hope our team is not stupid enough to waste a top 20 draft pick on Tyler Zeller. I watched a lot of him this year and he is not the power center we are looking for. As far as Freeland and Clavier are concerned, hype them up, up, up, then trade their draft rights on draft night for other picks, neither of them are ready for the NBA at this point. ESPN picked Oden over Durant knowing of his medical problems just like the Blazers did, so take Chad's advice with a grain of salt and form your own opinion on Zeller. If you watched him this year you would have to agree that he is not the defensive stopper Portland needs from this draft. With the #11 pick we should pick up whomever drops to us between Rivers and Jones, if for no other reason then to use as trade bait.
