Oct 05

On the eve of the exhibition-season opener, we were back on the air with Trail Blazers Courtside.  Since I'll be blogging again after the game against the Clippers, I just wanted to give you a chance to hear a few interviews from the show last night.

We were joined by Nate McMillan, Brandon Roy, and assistant coach Bob Ociepka.

To hear the interview with the coach, click here.  For Brandon, click here.  And, for Ociepka, click here. For the first full hour, click here. For the second full hour, click here.

After all of the interviews on the show, the good feelings, the talk of what's to come, Mike Rice tossed a wet blanket on everything.  He predicted that the Blazers will win 47 games this season.  The old man has officially lost the last few marbles he had remaining.

Talk to you after the game tonight.

  2. excited to get a glimpse of aldridge vs. griffin.

this could be the western conference power forward all-star race for years to come.

LaMarcus should be daring him to take a jumper.

when the days start getting shorter it is great to be able to see the blazers play!

  3. interesting perspective here where they liken rudy to drazen petrovic:

i'll stick with my previous comments. rudy should take it out on his opponents.

  4. okay now, i was completely unaware a new blog had been posted. i haven't listended to the podcasts from last night because monday and tuesday are heavy school.study days for me; but hopefully i'll get a chance to do so prior to game time.

i can't get any broadcasts from portland, but for this game, i am getting a streaming thing from the l.a. station (my dormmate is from just north of l.a.). i've really got to get something going as far as getting the broadcasts down here -- for little or no money.

    BLAZERS IN 2011!!!

  5. I keep forgetting about this show. I gotta start watching it.

Rice predicting 47 wins for the Blazers? That means with more talent we'll have less wins? Doesn't add up, Rice needs to see the Blazers once more before he talks. Good thing there's a game tonight.

  6. Kass,
I think you can listen to 95.5 online for free.

Kassandra was right. I had the same problem at the beginning, because I would just leave a tab open with MB's blog and refresh to see new comments. When I did, it would ask permission to "resend" data, which duplicated my post. I've figured out my own wonky system to prevent it, but it's a pain. I wonder if they're growing pains, or shrinking pains?

I like the focus on defense that everybody seems to be echoing, but at some point the offense will have to be examined. The old BRoy Iso didn't cut the mustard last season, and there's no reason to believe it will this time around. Remember the Suns dusting off the playbook to discover the double team, thereby halting our pathetic offense? I sure do. I mean, they are one of the worst defensive teams in the league, and it took them one game to figure out our offense and put the hurt on. Something's gotta change there, or we'll be watching another 1st round exit.

  7. 500Dogs: thanks, i'll try simply streaming it. oh, and that's exactly what i was doing as well. it happened the other day as a matter of fact. now i just go back up to favorites and reopen the page. as to last year vs. phoenix; Brandon injured, Nicolas re-injured; no Greg, no Joel, backup sg not fully back mentally after a back injury. yes, phoenix figured all that out, but things are already different, even without Greg and Joel (i still say Joel is back the first week of the season).

MB, Dan, et al: is there a way i can set my favorites for the blog so the most recent blog always comes up, without re-saving the newest blog as a favorite every time one is posted?

  8. all right, almost halftime ... i'll give it to you for the half -- Wesley is all over the place. if he plays like this when it counts, then i just may warm up to him. i also like what i'm hearing about LaMarcus, Dante, Jeff and Rudy (amongst others). it also seems like we're running a little bit. the slow tempo can get it done sometimes, but sometimes we need to run to be most effective. seems like Nate might be coming around to that idea. we also seem to be hot from three-point land.

i was thinking about some connections between the blazers and clippers:

    1. Marcus was traded to us from the clippers

    2. the clippers' Randy Foye was selected by us in the draft before we traded him for Brandon.

    3. earlier this summer, Ryan Gomes was a blazer for about a week.

    just thought that was interesting.

the clippers' announcer just speculated that with Andre's style, he could play another five years in the league.

  9. 47 wins? Rice is crazy! Old age has finally sunk in!

Now since I get replies, even though they are notifications, I can click on the link to open the page instead of refreshing. I did the bookmark thing like Kass, but then that took me to the blogs main page then I had to click again to get to the blog I wanted to see and that is just to much work! :)

Thanks for the game update. I had tickets, but I couldn't go tonite.

  10. hey mgb: i did the best i could. i couldn't stream the portland station, but my dorm RA halped me stream the l.a. station. i also followed the boxscore on nba-dot-com. the two were pretty much in sync so it was really enjoyable.

dormmate note: she actually cheered with me when Luke hit the trey! i showed her a pic of him and she thinks he's cute! i've deemed her as the blazers' newest fan!

what a great way to kick off the pre-season!

  13. if there have been any changes to whom is coaching the blazers on their shooting form, it has paid off. given it was pre-season clipper defense they were going against, almost all of the guys look to have improved form.

nic started hot, and it went from there.

most notably to myself was jerryd. previously to tonight, his shot has looked flat, rushed and sometimes angry. tonight, it looked like the deadly outside shot of an nba point guard. well done mr. bayless.

rudy my friend, if you're going to shoot like that, you can't go anywhere. your place is right next to jerryd, wesley, brandon, nic, andre and the rest of the guys draining 3s and making the blazers look good.

i had a nice time being back in the RG after almost 6 months. i might have to treat myself to that black LaMarcus Aldridge throwback jersey. it would look nice on the shrine next to last season's red b-roy throwback.
