    On February 18, the Trail Blazers were 25-22 but had lost eight of their last 13 and six of their last 10 at home. At this juncture, assistant coach Rick Adelman was promoted to interim coach, replacing Mike Schuler.

    Despite an unforgiving schedule (Portland played 16 of its first 24 games under Adelman's leadership on the road), and key injuries down the stretch, the Blazers downed Dallas to advance to the playoffs for the 12th time in 13 years.

    Clyde Drexler continued his evolvement as one of the league's premier performers. He averaged a club-record 27.2 ppg, scored 20 or more points in all but 11 games and topped the 30-point mark 24 times, including a career-high 50 points January 6 versus Sacramento.

    Clyde Drexler and Kevin Duckworth were selected to play in the NBA All-Star Game . .. Drexler had 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in 25 minutes . . . Duckworth tallied five points in seven minutes . . . Drexler finished fourth in NBA scoring (27.2 ppg), the highest finish ever by a Blazer . . . Drexler was fifth in in steals (2.73 spg) and Terry Porter fourth in assists (9.5 apg).
