Nate McMillan inherited one of the NBA's youngest and least experienced teams when he took over as the Trail Blazers's 12th head coach. His youthful Trail Blazers, who averaged just 24.5 years of age and three seasons of professional basketball experience, were thoroughly tested while navigating in a rugged Western Conference that was populated with teams boasting eight of the league's 12 best records. Portland finished with a 21-61 season's mark, matching the second-lowest win total in franchise history and the fewest victories since 1972-73, the club's third year in the league.

It was only the second time in 36 seasons the Trail Blazers wound up at the bottom of the NBA win-loss column. Putting together their longest win streak of the season, four games in mid-January as part of a a 7-4 run over three week period, the Trail Blazers then struggled to find victories to close out the schedule. They won only one of their last 21 games in a stretch that included 11 straight setbacks, their longest losing streak in 20 years.

Fifth-year forward Zach Randolph led the team in scoring and rebounding for the third straight season, averaging 18.0 points and 8.0 boards in 74 games. The five guard rotation of Juan Dixon, Steve Blake, Sebastian Telfair and rookies Martell Webster and Jarrett Jack---with a combined six years experience---ranked among the Trail Blazers' top eight scorers.

Joel Przybilla was 7th in the NBA in blocked shots (2.32 per game). Jarrett Jack ranked 6th among NBA rookies in assists (2.8)and 8th in FT percentage (.800). Martell Webster finished 8th among rookies in 3-point percentage (.357).
