Trail Blazers, Providence Health & Human Services Provide Meals And Services For More Than 6,000 Portlanders

    Trail Blazers players and staff team up with Providence for 17th annual Harvest Dinner
     
    PORTLAND, Ore. – The Trail Blazers teamed up with Providence Health & Services to host the 17th annual Harvest Dinner at the Rose Garden on Monday. For five hours, thousands of meals and a multitude of services were provided to homeless, underserved and low-income individuals and families.
                                                                                         
    The meals were served by Trail Blazers players, coaches, executives, alumni, local media personalities and make it better volunteers. Together, they served more than 6,000 hot holiday-style meals to help alleviate food insecurity in Portland.
     
    According to the Oregon Food Bank, 270,000 Oregon residents rely on emergency food boxes each month, with 92,000 of those being children. The goal of Harvest Dinner each year is to raise awareness around this issue and bring together community partners to serve those who are unable to afford an ideal holiday dinner.
     
    “The Harvest Dinner is an event our entire organization looks forward to each year,” said Traci Rose, Trail Blazers Vice President of Community Relations. “It is an honor to team up with Providence Health & Services, and all of our partners, to lend an assist to our community and support local organizations who are working every day to help people and their families who are struggling. Harvest Dinner not only provides free meals and services to guests, it shines a light on the on-going challenges of food insecurity taking place throughout Portland and across Oregon.”
     
    In addition to meals, the Trail Blazers combined their efforts with community partners to offer free services to the Harvest Dinner guests. Health care services, such as flu shots, were offered by presenting partner Providence Health & Services.
     
    “The Harvest Dinner is an important community outreach, and Providence is pleased to take part again this year,” said Dave Underriner, Chief Operating Officer for Providence in Oregon. “This event shows the importance of compassionate service to all, which is at the heart of our Providence Mission.”
     
    Banfield Pet Hospital® participated for a fourth year at the Harvest Dinner, offering veterinary services including: vaccinations, flea and tick control, nail trimming and therapy for minor ailments to pets of attendees. Dr. Ari Zabell, Director of Client Advocate Support for Banfield Pet Hospital, along with other Banfield veterinarians and veterinary technicians, provided preventive care services to more than 100 pets as well as distributed pet food.
     
    “We are proud to support the Harvest Dinner by providing preventative veterinary care to the pets of those in need,” said Dr. Zabell. “Our veterinary practice is committed to making a better world for pets and giving back to communities in which we live and work.”

    · Oregon Humane Society – Temporary pet boarding/pet accessories
    · Medical Teams International Mobile Dental Clinic – Dental checkups/treatment
    · Compassion Care Clinic – Podiatry
    · Great Clips – Haircuts
    · Jeff Hinds Photography – Family photography
    · Wells Fargo – Children's play area (Kid’s Corner)
    · Coca Cola – Beverages
