Portland has own pick and Brooklyn’s selection

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers hold the 6th and 11th picks of the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft as a result of today’s draft lottery. This year’s draft marks the first time Portland has had two lottery picks since the lottery was introduced in 1985.

“This is tremendous news for us as we begin to reload our roster and start a new chapter of Trail Blazers basketball,” said Acting General Manager Chad Buchanan. “To have two lottery picks in what is considered a very deep and talented draft puts us in a position to significantly improve our roster.”

The Trail Blazers assume Brooklyn’s protected selection, the 6th pick, since the Nets did not earn one of the top three picks in the draft. The 11th pick is Portland’s own selection.

Portland also owns two second round picks in this year’s draft, Minnesota’s selection via Houston (No. 40) and its own pick (No. 41).

The 2012 NBA Draft will be held on Thursday, June 28, at The Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. and broadcast by ESPN at 4 p.m. PDT.
