Trail Blazers: This Season, Timing Is Everything
“We haven’t had that time to work in practice, so your games almost become practice. You’re kind of limited in what you can have. Mostly everything is a walk-through,” McMillan said. “We’ve walked through a lot of things, teaching through film, but going live is where you work on your timing. You can’t get that when you have so many games.”

Oregon Live: Nicolas Batum ready to focus on game after contract extension talks with Trail Blazers fail
“I’m good with everything,” Batum said, expressing relief that the extension deadline had passed. “The toughest part was that I don’t know what was going to happen. But now I know. And, OK, it’s bad because we didn’t reach a deal. But I’m good because I’m finally done with it. I don’t care about it now. Free agency is in July. We’re in January, so I don’t think about it right now.”

Oregon Live: Blazers-Suns: Even after blowout win, Blazers know they won't be a really good team until they solve road woes
"To be a really good team, to be an elite team in the NBA, you've got to win on the road," Portland guard Jamal Crawford said."

Columbian: Behind the Wheels: An all-too-real Cinderella story
"Longtime Clippers announcer Ralph Lawler added that Wheeler is widely regarded as one of the best in business, “and that’s a tribute because there a lot of really good people.” Harvey stated pithily that “when Wheels picks up the mic, he’s unreal.”

Blazersedge: Game 21 Preview: Portland Trail Blazers vs. Utah Jazz
"On paper this looks like a pretty even matchup. The Jazz are talented and flawed, as are the Blazers. The Jazz are up and down, as are the Blazers. Utah has strengths of interior scoring and fast-breaking, though, which correspond to Portland weaknesses. Combine that with Portland's chronic road woes and the Blazers are going to have to come out with more determination than we've yet seen from them away from the Rose Garden. Utah really won't want to lose this game. The Blazers are going to have to take it. In order to do so they'll have to both defend and score in the middle, commit to getting back on defense, and work for smart shots instead of settling for convenient ones. Oh...and don't forget those rebounds."

    NBA: The Morning Tip
"The Blazers have a lot of young pieces, like Luke Babbitt and Nolan Smith and Elliot Williams. They have a potential breakout player in Nicolas Batum, who is chapped he didn't get a contract extension, and though the Blazers have always said Batum was off-limits trade wise, they need a long-term solution in the middle to ultimately replace 37-year-old Marcus Camby. They also have an owner who can easily write a $3 million check. (If we were really feeling conspiratorial, they also have a former No. 1 overall pick in the Draft who hasn't been able to stay healthy, and who probably could use a change in scenery to a place with next to no expectations for him.)"

Ball Don't Lie: Video: The NBA’s best rookie hits a game-winner
"Whenever Byron Scott starts playing Irving more, it stands to reason that his national profile will also become greater. That matters, at least in relation to taking home the Rookie of the Year hardware, because these awards tend to be voted on based more on perception than statistical analysis. Rubio is a very good player with a ton of promise, but his recent shooting woes have proven he has lots of room to grow. Irving does too, of course, but his play so far this season helps him to project as a future superstar. On top of that, he has the Cavs in line to earn the last playoff spot in the East, an outcome few would have predicted a month ago."

Ball Don't Lie: Video: Carlos Boozer’s young son roots against his father
"That said, it's still pretty funny to think that the child of an NBA player could actually root against his dad. So, enjoy the clip above, in which the young son of Chicago Bulls forward Carlos Boozer shouts "Let's Go Heat" along with the home crowd. The Boozers live in Miami, but several people among Junior Boozer's family and friends were wearing his father's jersey. So, for all we know, maybe he's young enough that he has no real idea who his father plas for. Weirder things have happened."

The Basketball Jones: Ep. 750: Winners, Losers, Beards
"On today’s live episode of “The Fix,” Skeets and Tas take you through their winners and losers of the NBA weekend. On the honor roll: Rodrigue Beaubois and the Dallas Mavericks, Tiago Splitter, Pop riding his bench, inevitable “Rookie of the Year” Kyrie Irving, and the wild Bulls-Heat game. On the shit list: LeBron’s glistening beard, the struggling Orlando Magic, and the three-point gunnin’ Knicks. All that, plus pancakes, the Pro Bowl, manscaping, and Trey’s “Nower Rankings."

DIME: Daily Fantasy Basketball Diagnosis: 1.30 (Weekend Recap)
"Marcus Camby (1/27): 0-4 FG (0%), 20 Reb, 3 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 Blk, 1 TO; Camby has racked up 58 rebounds, five steals and seven blocks in his last three games. His owners should look to sell high."

    SLAM: Post Up: DRose, Heated
"Chicago never led in this game, and Derrick Rose clanked a pair of free throws that would have tied it with 22 seconds left, then missed a jumper with 3 seconds to play that also would have tied the game, helping Miami escape with a win over their top competition in the East and improve to 15-5 (9-2 at home). Before yesterday, DRose had yet to miss a fourth-quarter free throw. The MVP played 45 minutes and scored 34 points, but couldn’t hit the clutch foul shots, and the Bulls dropped to 17-5. LeBron James put up a 35/11/5 line, Chris Bosh had 24 points and 12 rebounds, and Dwyane Wade chipped in 15 points and 7 dimes. The remaining non-Big 3 Heat players combined for 23 points. And yes, The King & Co. had a slew of highlights. Take your pick: Bosh, LeBron, Wade, Wade again, LeBron again."

SLAM via Chicago Tribune: Derrick Rose Blames Himself for Bulls’ Loss to Heat
“It’s definitely tough,” Rose said. “All I can say is, I guess God does everything for a reason. To miss both and let my team down, the only thing I can do is learn from it. This is so unreal. I had a chance to change the game. This time, it didn’t work out. I know my will to win is still very high. I guarantee you next time those shots are going down."

NBA: Race To The MVP Ladder
"James is doing what we all saw him do for years in Cleveland, carry a team to the top of the heap with an unrelenting ability to dominate games from basically every aspect. The Heat's 9-1 record without Dwyane Wade is impressive on its own. But James has been nothing short of brilliant in the way he has managed games by manning whatever position the Heat need him to on a given night to get the job done."

ESPN: Power Rankings: Miami Heat bounce Bulls at No. 1
"Only two teams in the Western Conference have a better nightly average point differential than the Blazers' +4.9 nearly a third of the way into the season: Denver at +7.2 and OKC at +6.2. But the Blazers' ongoing road struggles and inconsistent guard play are getting more attention. Justifiably so, Blazermaniacs?"
