PORTLAND, ORE -- The Portland Trail Blazers (16-10) ended their three-game losing streak with a 109-77 victory over the Sacramento Kings (7-19), in front of 20,005 at the Rose Garden Tuesday night.

Brandon Roy led the Portland attack with 29 points, one point shy of extending his streak of 30 point games. Roy set a career high with 15 free throws, and watched the final period of the night from the bench with the home team leading 81-60.

“Brandon is emerging into the kind of player who is able to take control of the game,” head coach Nate McMillan said following the game. “What you are seeing is what stars do.”

Kings guard John Salmons scored the first five points of the game, helping Sacramento to a 14-6 lead with 7:47 remaining in the opening period. From that point, the Trail Blazers began to take over. Joel Przybilla finished a fast break with a dunk on a feed from Rudy Fernandez, giving Portland their biggest lead of the first quarter at 28-20.

The second quarter belonged to Roy, who went 3-of-4 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line to finish the period with 13 points. Roy’s 13 free throws in the first half were two off of the franchise record for made free throws in one half.

“The first quarter we did give up some easy baskets,” McMillan said. “But then we settled down and our defense got much sharper for the rest of the game.”

Portland went into the locker room at the half leading 54-42. In the third quarter Portland pushed their lead to 79-55, keeping Sacramento to 18 points on 22 percent shooting from the field.

The Trail Blazers led by as much as 36 in the fourth period, getting every player on the roster involved. Every Trail Blazer saw action and scored Tuesday night.

“The win was huge.” Przybilla said. “A lot of guys don’t get a lot of minutes and its good for them to get out there.” Przybilla finished with a game-high 14 rebounds.

LaMarcus Aldridge finished the night with 15 points. Nicolas Batum and Fernandez both finished with 12. Batum helped shut down Salmons in the second half, holding him to zero points after halftime.
