Trail Blazers: 2011 Mock Draft Database

The Basketball Jones: An international draft retrospective
"Sabonis was considered the best player on the planet by some during his time overseas, but because he didn’t play in the NBA, this proclamation had its detractors. He didn’t begin his NBA career until the 1995-96 season at the age of 31, effectively missing out on hitting the American hardwood during his prime years, but in eight seasons proved that foreign players could get down in the NBA, averaging 12.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in only 24.2 minutes per game. Along with Drazen Petrovic, he is considered a pioneer in Euro-NBA relations."

Trail Blazers: Eventful Summer Kicks Off
"Despite going down in the first round to Dallas, there were some positives to take from it even right after it happened. But, the feeling was different then (and wow, does that seem like a long time ago, or what?). It was more about us then. After watching Dallas chew up the Lakers, I had more of a feeling that it was a huge missed opportunity, and that we would have had a very good chance against the Lakers. But now, seeing what Dallas ultimately accomplished, my feeling is more about the Mavs and less about us. Does that make any sense at all?"

Oregon Live: NBA draft 2011: Should the Trail Blazers draft Donatas Motiejunas?
""On the positive side, he seems to have added a good 10 to 15 pounds of muscle to his frame in the past year while still retaining the quickness that made him such a potent scorer in Europe. I do think the workout may have done a little more damage to Motiejunas. He hasn't had a lot of momentum of late and seeing something like this feeds the notion that perhaps he peaked in 2009 or 2010. But there's still time. Motiejunas has another workout scheduled for Monday evening to redeem himself. I quizzed a lot of NBA people in the gym and most of them had him ranked somewhere between 14 and 23 on their boards.""

Oregon Live: Trail Blazers' Chad Buchanan was prepared when opportunity arrived
"Through all of this, he's been himself, he hasn't changed," Blazers assistant GM Bill Branch said of Buchanan. "He always came across and has always carried himself in a very generous, gracious way. I don't think he's been rattled at all by any of this."

Rip City Project: Time To Look Back
"I’m listing the Gerald Wallace signing as a surprise because it was such a marked change in strategy from years passed. Every season, around the trade deadline, talk has centered on what kind of deals Portland should make to get better, and when and how they planned to get those deals done. There have been many years when the Blazers had pieces, everybody remembers Raef LaFrentz and his expiring contract, but every year the deadline comes and goes and Portland does very little. The Blazers have brought in guys like Von Wafer and Michael Ruffin, yes they went out and got Marcus Camby last season but still, and the team hasn’t gotten any better. Bringing in Gerald Wallace, and doing it for role players, indicated that this team means business. Of course, the firing of Rich Cho negated much of that feeling, but such is life."

Blazersedge: Portland Trail Blazers Draft Possibilities: Kenneth Faried
"This is a guy fans would love from moment one. He's the classic "just a shade too short" power forward who makes up for it with energy, hard-nosed play, and absolutely no give-up at all. His calling card spouts monstrous rebounding totals. Most of those rebounds were manufactured, not granted. Going back and watching tape it often looks like he is the only player on the floor when it comes to retrieving the ball. You're almost surprised when anybody else gets one. Plus Faried is a senior with a long track record of willing defense, blocking shots...anything you need. The moment this guy grabs his first rebound in a Portland uniform his name will be engraved in power-forward-loving Blazer fans' hearts."

Ball Don't Lie: Your championship Mavs want their rings, Mark Cuban
"We've got to talk to him about that," said Dirk Nowitzki, the finals MVP. "I don't think the last word has been spoken yet. We know he always wants to do something different, something bigger. But the ring is just so classic. I think I would vote for a ring. I mean, I'm a man. I don't know how I'd feel about a bracelet."

Ball Don't Lie: What if Dirk Nowitzki had gone to Penn State?
"But it is fascinating to think about. What would have happened, had Nowitzki not been able to meet Steve Nash at a Dallas barbecue (before getting schooled in a pickup game by Gary Trent) right after the Mavericks drafted him? What if there would have been a barrier between his time in Germany and his time spent with Don Nelson? What if Nellie hadn't ever coached him? Would Steve Nash have eventually become Steve Nash? Would Mark Cuban, maverick nature not yet scaring off Bud Selig, have focused on baseball instead? What would have happened on Sunday? A butterfly flaps its wings, and all that stuff."

Ball Don't Lie: Teenage daughter of Robert Horry dies after lifelong illness
"My little girl was the light of my life and my family's," Horry told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. "It's been tough, but we were blessed to have her for the time we did."

The Basketball Jones: What are you going to buy Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian for their wedding?
"And let me tell you, the selection is to die for. The happy couple is registered at GEARYS, which is Beverly Hills’ finest luxury goods retailer. There is a lot of stuff on the registry, and it’s all super affordable. That is just a small selection of the homegoods these two lovebirds have requested. This is all vital stuff. It’s like interior design legend Thom Filicia probably says, “You can never have enough vases, and also don’t mix up your jam and your jelly.” Classic home decorating advice."

SLAM: Mock: Justin Harper, No. 24
"We had our eyes on this kid last year before he decided to return for his senior season. A year in which, the 6-9, 230-pound forward led his team into the national tournament’s Sweet 16 with an effective mix of inside-outside game. Harper’s last season in his hometown, Richmond, produced stat-lines of 18 ppg, 54 percent from the field and an efficient 45 percent on a high-volume of attempts from long-range. With the bulk of our current roster locked up into long-term deals (Russ’ rookie deal expires in two years, but a renegotiated deal is both imperative and imminent), we are in a fine position salary cap-wise."

ESPN: What's the biggest issue facing the Mavs going into the offseason?
"Tyson Chandler. It could be argued that the 7-foot-1 center made the most significant impact of any newcomer to any team. He brought a defensive mindset, vocal leadership and a force in the middle that the Mavs just haven't had at any point during Dirk Nowitzki's 13 seasons. Chandler will be a highly sought-after free agent. He has expressed his enjoyment with playing in Dallas, but has stayed away from making any commitment as he heads toward free agency. Winning the title might make it harder for him to go elsewhere, even if it means taking less money."
